tear trough filler

What does it do?

The tear trough is the area of skin that sits under the eye and is prone to hollowing, dark circles, and eye bags. To address these concerns and achieve a fresher, more youthful look, tear trough fillers are utilised.

  • Tear trough fillers are specifically designed to fill the hollowed under-eye area and elevate the skin, creating a smoother and more level appearance with the rest of the face. By doing so, shadowing in this area is improved, and mild eye bags can also be addressed. Additionally, tear trough fillers can help reduce the appearance of dark circles, resulting in a brighter and rejuvenated under-eye area.

who is it for?

It's important to note that not everyone is a suitable candidate for tear trough fillers, and this procedure comes with higher risks. To ensure safety and optimal results, it is essential to only seek treatment from an experienced medical professional. We strongly advise scheduling a consultation to discuss your specific needs and determine if tear trough fillers are the right option for you.

frequently asked questions

  • As with all medical treatments, tear trough fillers carry some side effects and risks. Swelling and bruising are common and to be expected, along with mild discomfort. Subtle bumps and irregularities can initially be present due to swelling but will resolve with time. Following aftercare instructions is essential to minimize the risk of migration and ensure long-lasting results.

Individuals with a history of cold sores should inform the practitioner beforehand, as needle injections can trigger breakouts. There is a small risk of filler entering a blood vessel and blocking blood supply to the skin, known as vascular occlusion. However, as a medical clinic we have the necessary equipment and enzymes to reverse this in case of emergency. Aftercare advice will be provided, and the clinic will be available for any necessary support or adjustments during the recovery period. Extensive care has been taken to minimise risks through technique modifications for each treatment.

  • Approximately one third of patients are not appropriate candidates for Tear Trough Filler.

Tear trough fillers are generally well-suited for individuals with mild to moderate tear troughs, mild eye bags, and dark circles caused mainly by shadowing rather than true pigmentation. However, several factors need consideration before proceeding with this treatment. The under-eye area attracts moisture and is prone to swelling due to the hyaluronic acid content in the fillers. Therefore, undergoing filler treatment without an actual tear trough depression can lead to water retention and puffiness. To ensure natural-looking results, the tear trough is undertreated on the day of the procedure, with around 70% improvement expected after a few weeks. Overcorrection may result in an unnatural appearance, especially during facial expressions.

Individuals with poor skin elasticity or excessive skin may not be suitable candidates for tear trough fillers, as it may lead to puffiness or fail to provide the desired outcome. Those prone to persistent puffiness around the eyes may also not be ideal candidates for this treatment. Large eye bags are not treatable with fillers as they require surgical intervention.
